About Mercia Guides
The Anglo Saxon kingdom of Mercia was a major influence on national development and incorporates many sites of interest, including Tamworth, Lichfield, Repton, Warwick and the Staffordshire Horde. Having lived in Repton, Warwick and also in Hammerwich, ½ a mile from where the Staffordshire Horde was discovered, I felt Mercia was an appropriate name for my web site.
When I moved to Warwickshire 10 years ago, after spending time working overseas, I saw the Heart of England in a new light. It was this that prompted me to qualify as a Blue Badge Guide. I enjoy sharing my appreciation of the region with others so they can take away memories of a fascinating experience.
I have a broad interest in the extensive history of the region, how it has changed over the centuries and the beauty of the countryside and the geology of the region. I’m particularly interested in how the natural geography of the region can affect the lifestyle of the population. I am familiar with all sports, particularly cricket and football.
As a Heart of England Blue Badge Guide I have completed courses and exams for Warwickshire, Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Birmingham and the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Shropshire and Oxfordshire. The Heart of England Blue Badge also applies to the East Midlands regions, including Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
